WFS, a member of the SATS Group, is a global leader in air cargo logistics and a leading partner in ground handling services. We provide air cargo, ground handling, and specialized services. SATS-WFS has a strong global presence, with a combined network of more than 215 locations and over 46,000 highly skilled professionals worldwide.
At WFS Schiphol, everything revolves around timing, coordination, and teamwork. Behind the warehouse, we ensure that Unit Load Devices (ULDs) are transported to and from aircraft at the right time, using the correct transport and according to schedule. As an Assistant Cargo Controller, you play a key role in this process.
What will you do?
As an Assistant Cargo Controller, you support the Cargo Controller with operational tasks. You monitor the progress of cargo flows, maintain oversight of ULD movements, and ensure that everything runs according to schedule.
In the absence of the Cargo Controller, you prepare daily planning schedules based on flight schedules and expected cargo flows, aligning these with the capacity of the transport system. You coordinate ULD flows between the warehouse, ramp, and airside, ensuring priorities are followed. You register and check cargo and monitor the import/export process in the system.
In addition, you supervise Cargo Control staff, truck drivers, and couriers on the work floor. You distribute tasks, monitor the process, and address colleagues when necessary. You also guide new employees in their work and contribute to strong teamwork and a positive working atmosphere.
You will work with the PCHS system and support colleagues in its use. In the event of malfunctions, you help identify solutions and independently resolve first-line issues. You are also responsible for maintaining order and overview on the airside, including maneuvering and positioning dollies, pallet transporters, and other rolling equipment. You will also be involved in loading and unloading trucks at the Moving Truck Dock (MTD).
This is a hands-on role in which you will regularly switch between the warehouse, office, and Cargo Control department.
What do you bring?
- Experience in air cargo, cargo control, or a similar logistics environment
- Experience with pallet movers and tractors, such as Mulag, is a plus
- A valid category B driving licence
- Technical and operational insight
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain overview in busy situations
- Good command of Dutch and English
- Willingness to work shifts within a 24/7 operation
- Experience in a supervisory role or as a senior team member
What do we offer?
- A salary between €2,700 and €3,500 based on a 38-hour work week
- Additional allowances for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Based on a standard roster, you can earn an average 22% irregular hours allowance (shift allowance) on top of your salary
- Travel allowance and parking facilities
- Opportunities for development within the organization and in this role
- A pension scheme, largely funded by us
- A one-year contract with the prospect of a permanent position
- A dynamic and fast-growing working environment at Schiphol
