Duty Manager Air Cargo
Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), part of the SATS Group, is a leading name in the global air cargo industry with more than 50,000 employees worldwide. Our operations at Schiphol, Europe’s third busiest airport, play a key role in the international flow of goods and trade through one of Europe’s major logistics hubs.
We ensure that cargo reaches destinations worldwide quickly, safely and efficiently. Our work includes receiving, storing and preparing both import and export cargo. We sort goods, store them safely and prepare them for further distribution. We unload trucks, build cargo on aircraft pallets or into containers and make sure every shipment arrives at the right place around the world. Every imaginable type of cargo passes through our warehouse, which makes the work varied and dynamic. Every day, the world moves through our operation.
Due to the expansion of our activities, we are looking for a Duty Manager.
What will you do?
In the role of Duty Manager, you are during your shift fully responsible for the safe, efficient and timely handling of import and export cargo. You maintain oversight of the operation, lead the team and ensure that activities on the work floor run according to plan. You are visibly present, able to switch quickly and make decisions when the situation requires it.
You coordinate daily warehouse activities and monitor the progress of import, export and, where applicable, transit processes. You continuously align with internal departments such as Planning, Airside Operations and Security, as well as with external parties including airlines, freight forwarders and customs. In case of disruptions or changes in planning, you intervene immediately and ensure an appropriate solution, without losing sight of safety or quality.
You work in a shift-based role within a 24/7 operation, including weekdays and weekends. This requires flexibility, alertness and the ability to maintain control and take responsibility at any time of day.
In addition, you are responsible for the deployment, supervision and coaching of the team during your shift. You ensure proper staffing levels, coach employees on the work floor and monitor compliance with work instructions, working and rest times, and safety regulations. You support the onboarding and development of new employees and guide them towards all-round deployability. Even during peak periods, you create calm and clarity.
Safety and quality are central to your role. You ensure the correct use of equipment, compliance with procedures and regulations, and you address employees on behaviour and performance when necessary. You are responsible for a proper handover between shifts and for recording incidents, exceptions and performance results. With your operational experience, you actively contribute to improving processes, collaboration and overall performance.
